Troy Drysdale Bursary

REMS Foundation reaches $100,000 target for Drysdale Bursary

September 2, 2010 - Grande Prairie, AB: The Regional EMS Foundation has reached their fundraising goal for the Troy Drysdale Memorial Emergency Services Bursary.

The Regional EMS Foundation is a Canadian charity whose mandate is to secure funding for EMS programs and projects

The Troy Drysdale Memorial Bursary was established to accomplish two meaningful goals.  First to create a memorial legacy for Troy that reflects his dreams and ambitions.  Second, to create an opportunity for other people from North-western Alberta to realize their career goals through financial aid.

Troy was a 21-year-old student pursuing a career in the Emergency Service Technician program at the Alberta Fire Training School in Vermillion, AB, and was an active member of the volunteer fire department in Grovedale, when he tragically lost his life as a result of a dirt bike accident.

Through the generosity of the Drysdale Family and the funds raised from the annual Troy’s Tourney in Grovedale AB the bursary program has reached its milestone target of $100,000.00 a significant accomplishment since its inception only 5 years ago.

The Troy Drysdale Memorial Bursary has awarded nearly $70,000 to students pursuing careers in emergency services. Through a partnership with Northern Alberta Development Council, (NADC) students can receive matching grants up to $2500.The region reaps the award of these   students who stay and work for Alberta Health Services EMS in the Northern Alberta.

This year a total of $8000.00 was distributed to the following worthy recipients:
